Modern Room Space Planning

Pillows are not just for the bedroom anymore. You can make any space more comfortable with pillows. They come in all shapes and sizes, and you can use all of them to help complete the look of your family room. Pillows are a great way to add a dramatic accent to any room, because you can easily switch up the color any time that you please. Once you start adding pillows to your space though, do take care not to overdo it.

Related Colors: If your furniture is fairly neutral you can use pillows as accent colors throughout the room. If you choose a bold, contrasting color to your furniture, you can balance the room with little splashes of color. If you have dramatic colors already in your furnishings then you want to find a contrasting color for your pillows to keep them from blending into the furniture. Then if you take that contrasting color and incorporate it into a window treatment and maybe some wall art, you create a beautifully cohesive aesthetic for the room.

Blending Patterns: If you are a little timid about adding pattern with pillows, choose a single pattern to sprinkle among your solid colored accent pillows. You can choose the solid accent color from the print on the printed pillows, and that will make all of the pillows relate to each other very nicely. Again, this will create a balanced, cohesive look for the room.

Shape and Texture: Remember that there are many textures that you can choose when you are adding accent pillows; do not be afraid to mix and layer them. For example, if you want to add pillows for an elegant look you may choose satin, silk and velvet, and they might be embellished with fringe, beading or embroidery. If you are going for a more casual, you can use one of the new microfiber materials, corduroy or cotton for your pillow fabrics. Then do not forget to play with the shape of your pillows using round, square, rectangle, star, kidney bean or just about any other shape that you can imagine.

It’s small, usually round, carries a lot germs and if you are in the serious business of door hardware, a crucial consideration. What is it? It is of course the door knob. And you would be wise to not underestimate its place in any interior design project.

Historically they were made from wood, metal, glass and apparently paper. Whilst these materials are still used for decorative door knobs, contemporary materials include ceramic plastic and a wider range of metals. Brass particularly is used because of its excellent resistance to rust. Historically again they were hand made but huge demand saw the rise of moulded door knobs with large manufacturing companies in America leading the way in the middle 1800`s.

To the door knob connoisseur they are `jewellery for buildings`. One American writer suggested we can tell a lot about the history of a city and its buildings by examining the craftsmanship, materials and decoration of its door knobs. Often door knobs were decorated with family insignia or symbols indicating status or position for instance of people in the Town hall.

Its clear the door knob maintains an important position for craftsmen, manufacturers, retailers and historians alike, but where is this often overlooked accessory in your kids room decor project?

Two things spring to mind when choosing your knobs function and decoration.

Laundry Room Planning

Laundry room organization is a big issue today with many people. Think about it-this is the room you place just about all your dirty items, whether it be clothes, bedspreads, towels, etc. It can be very easy to lost track of all these things and hopefully lose control of your bedroom.

What an effort it takes to maintain a place meant for keeping dirty clothes clean! It is just like talking about a garbage container being clutter free. Laundry room organization is just what you need to keep your clothes clean smoothly and effortlessly.

You need to set up a laundry room organization plan according to your budget. You can have a wonderful laundry room without being extravagant. This room is going to be a place where washer, dryer, ironing boards and hangers all compliment.

You can attach a small cabinet or a rack to the wall for your stereo system. Listen to your favorite music or your teacher as you wash.

You can arrange shelves and hang curtains to give your room a tidy appearance. Keep you detergent, bleaches, color fixers, fabric softener and bars on the shelf after use.

Do not leave dirty clothes hanging in the bathroom if it is attached to the laundry room. It will hopelessly fail the purpose of laundry room organization.

Always remember to stack clothes in the closet that have been washed, dried and ironed. This will save you from a rewash. If possible fold your laundry and keep it in a laundry bag before washing. This will give your room a neat look.

Small Living Space Ideas

Whether you live in an apartment, a small home or less than spacious condo, you may have noticed there is just not enough space to have the spread out living area you had been hoping for.

For some reason, the person who designed your home did not allow ample square footage for a living room that was to really be lived in. If you want to open up this space it is going to take a bit of planning and careful furniture buying. One of the pieces of furniture you may think would not fit into the equation would be sofa tables, but you would be wrong. While you may think sofa tables are too large and bulky to be good furniture pieces for a small living space, they can actually serve a number of purposes and replace the need for a variety of other furniture pieces. This translates to space saved by having one item instead of a number of small ones.

Think about the tables you often have in your living room. There are accent tables, end tables and/or sofa tables. Think of the amount of floor space that is taken up by a pair off end tables and accent tables. Now what if you could use sofa tables to replace all these items? You would not just save the space that is being taken up by the tables themselves, but since sofa tables are put flush against the sofa, you will also be able to save yourself a little floor space on one side of the sofa tables.

Now, can sofa tables really do the jobs those other tables do? Let’s look at them and find out. What do you use end tables for? End tables are generally a place to put lamps, the remote for the TV, drinks and other things you happen to have with you when you sit down. Sofa tables can do all of this as long as you choose a sofa table that is the same height of the sofa. A little twist to one side or the other and those items are set down. If you have a coffee table this can do part of the job as well.

Home Space Planning

Recently, Hotels are becoming more and more popular because of the busy schedules and fast paced living people do. People tend to be staying in more and more hotels and spending less time at home. This is because business is becoming more global, businesses look for a wonderful hotel atmosphere that provides sophistication and comfort for their work and meetings. Hence the hotel business is getting really familiar, and people seek hotels for both business and pleasure.

Atmosphere is What’s important in a Hotel

If you are in the hotel industry, then you worry about a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere for guests, customers, and visitors. Your furnishings and fittings play an important role in the success of your business. A hotels reception area takes the place of your calling card in the guests’ eyes and should provide a rich and sophisticated look. Hotel tables play an important role in the atmosphere you want to create. These tables should give the illusion of space and comfort, especially for the corporate executive. Hotel tables are commonly used in cafeteria areas, food courts, coffee shops, in hotel reception areas, in the rooms themselves, etc. Hotel tables can be used for both outdoor and indoor purposes for public meeting rooms and small corporate business rooms. These tables are available in various shapes and sizes and made of many different materials, depending on the tables use and placement. There are large, non movable table, such as those used in reception areas, and adjustable types. But whether they are adjustable, or permanent, they are made to provide elegance, style, use and can come in classic traditional styles or retro and modern look to the hotel area.

Furniture Space Planning

Office furniture gets a lot of use, so it makes sense to create a work environment that caters to your specific needs and requirements. This is especially true for those who work at home – if you choose office furniture that is comfortable, practical, and conducive to productivity, you and your family will reap the benefits.

Most jobs in the modern world require people to sit in a chair all day at a desk or in front of a computer. This type of work has its benefits, but it also has some drawbacks. Sitting for long periods of time staring at a computer screen can strain your body and may cause back problems. This is why it’s crucial to purchase a proper chair and install adequate lighting from the start, if you want to improve your office space. If you have the money, buy ergonomically designed furniture that is designed for comfort and to reduce the potential for common workplace injuries.

For the most flexible office environment, consider modular furniture as an option. If you have to make do with furniture you already own, try to set pieces up for use in various capacities. A good example is to use the top of a lateral file cabinet to store office equipment, such as a fax machine.

Remove office furniture that doesn’t serve a purpose. This will reduce clutter and make your office much more efficient. You’ll have everything you need right at your fingertips and won’t be tripping over bulky furniture that has no job but to get in your way.

Interior Space Planning

When it comes to our homes, most people spend the majority of their time indoors. Because we spend so much time inside, this tends to be where we spend the most money decorating, cleaning, and maintaining our homes. The exterior living space of our homes is often times underutilized, if not completely overlooked. Most homes have some type of outdoor space that can be used for rest, relaxation, or recreation. This space can vary in size from something as small as a balcony in an apartment, to acres of land around a rural home. Whatever the size, exterior living spaces can be a great extension of our homes, especially with proper planning.

When designing an outdoor living space, you must first ask yourself what you want to accomplish with the space. What needs must it fill? What purpose will it serve? If you are designing a deck or patio, for example, the size of the space should be determined based on how you'll use it. Will you be purchasing outdoor furniture such as a weatherproof couch, loveseat, and chairs? Or will it simply be a dining area with a table and chairs? Some families want to have both sitting and eating areas in their outdoor living space, which obviously requires more room.

Once you know how you want to use the area the next thing to consider is how often you'll use the space. If it will only be utilized in the summer, an area out in the open may be fine. If you wish to use it in the spring and fall, you might want to select a location that is sheltered from the sometimes chilly spring and fall winds. For areas with mild winters, a four season room might be a good option. Four season rooms often have windows with removable panels so they become a screened in porch in the summer and an enclosed room in the winter.
